Well, Christmas has come and so has the annual sickness. Last year was the flu. This year is the cold.
When we got married, we vowed to each other that we would stay committed “in sickness and in health.” So, practically, what does that look like? Here’s a little window into a bedtime conversation we had the other night…
Derek (sniffling, coughing, weak, and nasally): “Goodnight. I love you.”
Me (sympathetic, compassionate, loving): “Goodnight. I hope you sleep well. Love you too…..Oh, by the way, if you think of it during the night, try not to breathe on me. So, lie either facing up or to the other side. Thanks.”
Hey! How am I supposed to care for someone if I get sick? (That’s my rationale anyways). But it didn’t do any good, because now I did get sick, too. Shows what I get for being compassionate and sympathetic!
So, you’ll recognize us these days by our red noses, box of tissues, Clorox wipes, and hand sanitizer.
Hope you all had a happy and healthy Christmas! 🙂
