Well, to make a long story short…my sister Molly was due with Baby Patz #5 tomorrow. The plan was that I (Kristin) was going to be at the hospital for the birth – just to gain a little more firsthand experience before heading off to Zambia.
The call came on Thursday morning a little after 8. There was some debate as to when I should come, and before we hung up, we decided on “asap.” I flew through a shower and then put my makeup on in the car as Derek drove me up to Molly and Daniel’s house…upon which we saw 2 squad cars and an ambulance, all with their lights flashing.
Come to find out, 15 minutes after they called me, Molly went into transition labor and knew that she just couldn’t wait. So, while Daniel sent the kids downstairs to watch a movie, Molly got in the bathtub. And 5 minutes later, Daniel delivered Mary Noelle. Come to find out, a tent string actually works quite well for tying off the umbilical cord!
Neither the paramedics, nurses, or doctor had ever had this happen to them before. Thankfully, everything went well, and we all had a good laugh about it.
Oh, hurray for Molly! What a beautiful family! I remember Molly wanting to be at one of Suzanne’s births. 🙂 Little would we have ever guessed she too would deliver at home. What a blessing! What a family of blessings!
Congratulations Daniel and Molly and Family.
SO cute! I will be praying that she will continue to stay healthy!
