In our December newsletter, I retold one of my most recent vivid Christmas memories. I won’t spoil it for you here, but I will share a different memory.
Last year, some friends gave us a copy of some “Sermon Jams.” If you’ve never heard of Sermon Jams, here is a taste for you:
Well, I had never heard of Sermon Jams either. But the CD looked interesting, so I thought I would listen to it while decorating the Christmas tree. Boy, was that a bad idea.
Me, pulling out boxes of ornaments and lights, still happy and looking forward to decorating the tree.
Background noise: I don’t want to waste my life!!!
Me, hanging ornaments on the tree, beginning to think that maybe Sermon Jams wasn’t such a good music choice.
Background noise: I don’t want to waste my life!!!
Me, still hanging ornaments but getting more and more depressed.
Background noise: I don’t want to waste my life!!!
Me, thinking: If I want to continue liking Christmas traditions like decorating the Christmas tree, I need to NOT make Sermon Jams part of my experience. Maybe next year I’ll go back to Evie and the never-failing “Common, ring those bells! Light the Christmas tree. Jesus in the King! Born for you and me…”
Don’t get me wrong. I still like Sermon Jams…just not while decorating the Christmas tree. 🙂
